Skin Cancer Treatment FAQ

How does GentleCure work?

GentleCure uses advanced imaging technology to precisely target the cancerous cells with a controlled dose of X-ray energy. This kills the cancer without harming the surrounding healthy tissue. You’ll come in for 15-minute treatment sessions a few times a week over 4-7 weeks to complete your personalized plan.

What are the side effects of GentleCure?

Potential side effects are minimal and may include temporary redness, swelling, or skin irritation at the treatment site. These typically resolve within 2-6 weeks after treatment is complete. There is also a low risk of skin thinning or pigment changes, but no scarring or need for reconstructive surgery.

Is GentleCure covered by insurance?

Yes, GentleCure is covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans. Our team will work with your provider to determine your out-of-pocket costs upfront, so you can make an informed decision about your treatment.

How does GentleCure compare to other skin cancer treatments?

GentleCure has been shown to have a 99%+ cure rate in basal and squamous cell skin cancers, which is equal to or better than Mohs surgery – the previous gold standard. It’s also a more gentle, non-invasive option that avoids the scarring, downtime, and potential complications associated with surgery.

Does GentleCure only treat skin cancer?

Keloids are famously difficult to treat scar tissue overgrowths. GentleCure is one of the few highly effective solutions available for this challenging concern. While surgical intervention often results in more keloid formations over time, GentleCure has been shown to prevent new lesions from forming.

Can GentleCure treat any type of skin cancer?

GentleCure is highly effective for the two most common types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It can also be used to treat keloids and some recurrent or difficult-to-treat skin cancers.

How long does the treatment take?

Each GentleCure session lasts about 15 minutes from start to finish. Patients typically come in 3-4 times a week for a total of 5-7 weeks.

What happens if my skin cancer returns after GentleCure?

Recurrence rates with GentleCure are very low, but if the cancer does return, we can retreat the area using the same gentle, effective technique. We monitor you closely after treatment to catch any regrowth early. Furthermore, we can also provide a “boost” of sorts in the form of additional (2-4) treatments to the area if the lesion does not show signs of regression by the time of your follow-up appointment (about 6-10 weeks after your treatment).

If the additional treatment still does not remove the lesion, then we would discuss surgical options but do keep in mind that this is a rare occurrence, happening in 0.7% of cases or less.

Can I continue my normal activities during GentleCure treatment?

Yes, GentleCure is designed to be minimally disruptive to your daily life. You can maintain your regular work, exercise, and social activities throughout the treatment process.
